Hashimoto's disease is the most frequent cause of hypothyroidism. Hashimoto's disease occurs when the immune system attacks the thyroid gland, causing inflammation of the thyroid gland.

Symptoms of Hyperthyroidism

  • Sudden weight loss, even when appetite and food intake remain normal or increase.

  • Rapid or irregular heartbeat or pounding of the heart

  • Nervousness, irritability, tremors

  • Sweating

  • Changes in menstrual pattern

  • Increased sensitivity to heat

Graves’ disease is one of the most common causes of an overactive thyroid. Graves’ disease occurs when the immune system malfunctions and produces an antibody to the thyroid. The antibody overrides the thyroid’s normal regulation causing overproduction of the thyroid hormone, thyroxine.

Conventional treatment for thyroid problems:

Hypothyroidism - Take pharmaceutical medicines/thyroid hormone replacements. Hyperthyroidism - Remove the thyroid gland by surgery and/or radiation therapy.

Acupuncture effectively restores normal function of the thyroid gland by improving circulation to the gland. Acupuncture relieves patients’ symptoms and brings back their natural healthy glow. In stark contrast, hormone treatments are notorious for the harsh side effects.

In holistic medicine, the body is viewed as a whole when addressing disease, and also considers someone’s lifetime exposure to toxins, stress, and trauma. At Pink Heart, we also recognize that each person is unique and requires a custom approach to address areas of concern. This may include acupuncture, cupping, herbal supplements, and/or other recommendations to fully support your body coming into proper balance. If you’re struggling with health issues, book an appointment at our Pink Heart Acupuncture and More clinic now!
